Ibiza - event and sites photography

Earlier this summer I was very happy to take a trip to Ibiza with a long-time friend. The trip was a short break from all things weddings but not photography - that is definitely impossible whenever I go as I simply must document things, it’s a habit! I was very happy to observe both the clichè party-goers and the lively atmosphere during the early-season starter parties in smaller clubs (although I didn’t take an active part, call me old) as well as the island’s beautiful and still unspoilt areas of great natural beauty. It also struck me how clean everywhere we went was: from small towns to the beaches and even less attractive back roads - not a single wrapper left, not a piece of lone rubbish, just the sun and beautiful colours that seemed to adorn all places we visited.

Although my photography during this trip was focusing on sites and people, I couldn’t help myself when we came across a wedding up in the castle church of Ibiza town. Wedding photographer wherever I go, I had to chip in and docuement it, even if a tiny bit, especially for the beautiful warm colours of the local and traditional wedding attire.

We were also lucky to be pulled to a small, and another local and traditional celebration of sorts, definitely connected with Catholic religion crossed with flamenco-like clothing (especially evident by the women’s dresses) and the guitarists leading the choir frequently during the sun-washed mass. I still don’t know what the occasion was though… Anyhow, we thoroughly enjoyed it as it was a real feast for the eyes when it came to, again, colours and traditional decorations!

This is just a short entry, but about an important and a lovely one in my memory already as the moments, the culture and tradition experienced there brought me closer to enjoying myself than any wild party I could attend. And this being Ibiza that’s a bold statement, but honest and true. If I was to go back, it would be for those observational little pleasures and the island’s natural beauty, which many aren’t aware of as they head over for its lively clubbing scene.

Hope you enjoy these photos and they give you a glimpse of what you can see there apart from everything you might have already heard about Ibiza.

Watch this space for ‘back wedding photography’ from this season soon.

A more thorough and insightful article about this trip will be shared on Fuji X Passion. Check out their excellent and hugely entertaining and informative website for more travel, gear and passion-driven photographic content.

Until next time.
